New Foundation Courses for 2010 Who is the course for? | The Course is aimed at beginners aged 16 years and over and lasts for 4 weeks (Wed. nights, 7.45 – 9.00pm) at Queen Street Pool, Derby. The four weeks are designed to give you an enjoyable introduction to kayaking. You'll cover everything from what clothing and equipment to choose, right up to basic rescue skills, not to mention plenty of paddling. By the end of the course you'll have all of the foundation skills to confidently progress in your new sport. You will learn the basic skills required to paddle a kayak and get wet along the way. On completion of then course you will be awarded the BCU Paddlesport Start award. | | What equipment do I need? | Very little, just a swimming costume and that’s about it. We supply the boat, paddle and everything else you will require. | | | Do I need to be a good swimmer? | You have to be able to swim at least one length of the pool – that’s about 30 metres – and be able to tread water for 1 minute. | | | How much does it cost? | The total cost of the course is £29.00, to include the pool fees, coaching and all kit required. You have to complete a registration form and send it together with a cheque, made payable to Midlands Canoe Club, prior to starting the course. There is a max' of 6 places per course. | | | When are the courses running? | May May 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th Coach TBC
June June 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th Coach TBC | | | How do I get a registration form? | Send an email to Andy Ditchburn using the form here and you will be sent one by email. Complete the form and return to Andy with your cheque. The return address will be found on the form. | | | Will there be an opportunity to do more after the course? | There will be a number of training trips on the river once the weather starts to warm up for those that want to carry on, plus the club has a number of qualified coaches running courses throughout the year. | | | A year's MCC membership is around £40 for adults, and further details can be found here. |
