Lower Dove access

Postby Tom C on Tue Jun 08, 2010 3:59 pm

Does anyone know about access to the lower Dove?
I'm interested to paddle down from Rocester/Uttoxeter area, but am not sure what the crack is with access

Cheers!

Hi Tom, bad news: the annual River Dove Tour around the end of March is the only time where kayaking is officially allowed on that stretch of river, obviously apart from an agreement permitting playing at Marston weir at one day (Mondays?) a week during early summer. However, I have heard people telling that they paddle it anyway but a) you should do it only when hopefully there are no anglers around and b) when there is enough water, because parts of the river are very shallow; I grounded a couple of times during the Dove Tour last March. There is access to paddle Marston Weir on a Monday evening from April till July. Just time to get a quick paddle in there then!
