Derby City Outdoor Focus Group Meeting
Tuesday, 9th March, 2010
Present: Richard Williams (Facility Development Officer – Community Sport, Derby CC), David Heppleston (Darley Barn), John Chamberlin
Apologies: Nick Cope, Lloyd Dyson (Lees Brook School), Rex Bleakman (Orienteering), Peter Mitchell (Viking)
Only three of us were at the meeting but we decided to carry on anyway; Pete Mitchell was actually expected but eventually failed to trap.
Items from 13th October 2009 were updated, and in brief were:
Carsington Access – no further progress and no pressure to do so, but Ben Seal & Dave H. have suggested we visit Paul Ball's Peak Pursuits operation at Tittesworth Res' (Leek/Meerbrook), as that's also owned by Severn Trent.
Darley Barn – most things going well, with Darley Barn now an established OD Centre within Derby City; mobile climbing wall now in regular use.
Midland Canoe Club – updates given on fencing bids; Clubmark accreditation; lane access/resurfacing (and lack of); consideration of plans for improving launching access and facilities (inc. poss. disabled) through floating 'pontoons'; recently submitted bid for 'B&Q Shelter'; and a range of other MCC issues.
One of these was some potential funding that might be available through the 'Sport Unlimited' scheme*, but the deal was that any application would have to be submitted well before the end of March. Chatting about this with Ben at the pool last night, he offered to construct a bid a.s.a.p., with a mix of pool-hire and boat(s), which was extremely helpful of him.

Sorry there's not much else folks, but I think it's always worth MCC attending these meetings.
